Why Golf Is for Everyone (Top Reasons)
Golf is a rare sport. Anyone at any age with a set of clubs can play, which is why golf is for everyone. As someone who has been playing golf for twenty years and works in the golf industry, I’ve made it my mission to introduce others to the game of golf. There are many reasons I believe golf is a game for everyone; however, I have outlined what I think are the top reasons why it’s time to get out on the golf course and have fun.
Game of the People
If you’re wondering what type of person plays golf, it’s a simple answer: every type. This is why golf is widespread, and the advantages of playing outweigh any disadvantages of playing golf.
Over the years, I have had the privilege to meet people from all walks of life on the course-doctors, attorneys, actors, military generals, and everything in between. If there is one thing I have learned over the years, it’s that almost anyone can play golf, and it is more to a player than how well they perform on the golf course or a score on a scorecard.
Some people I’ve met have become friends, others have become valuable connections, and some have become both. The point is golf opens doors to those who play and are interested in connecting with others. So, remember, as a golfer, your playing partner may be more valuable than just someone to watch your golf ball, which is why you should play golf with someone whose company you enjoy throughout 18 holes.
Golf Minds Think Alike
There is something about meeting and being around others who enjoy the same thing as you. People who have a passion for golf have an enthusiasm that tends to be contagious. If it makes sense financially and fits your budget, I recommend joining a country club. Not only is a golf or country club a great place to meet other golfers, but it’s also a valuable resource for practicing and playing regularly. Usually, purchasing a golf membership will save you money in the long term if you play enough rounds a month. It’s also an excellent place to get golf lessons and improve your game.
Affordable
Also, although golf equipment can be expensive, due to the internet and the selection of second-hand golf equipment available, there has never been a better time to be a golfer, regardless of your skill level.
A Lifelong Game
I’ve said it before: golf is a game you can play for life. From junior golfers to seniors in their 80s, those who choose can play golf at any age. It’s never too late to begin playing and work on your golf game, so if you’re a golfer who knows someone considering taking up golf, or if you want to take up the game, then now is the time to get started.
I recommend checking out different courses in your area for golf leagues or programs for golfers in your age range. Most courses will have a program for juniors, seniors, and everyone. Golf programs are a great way to meet people and get some exercise in the great outdoors, which is why golf is popular.
Get Started
If you haven’t already, get started playing golf. There are many golfers out there that are willing to help you, especially golf professionals at your local golf club.
Try to forget how well you play initially; instead, have fun and learn to enjoy the process of getting better at golf. I’ve found that when I work on enjoying the game, the other stuff, like improving, seems to work out long-term. Your time on the golf course should be an outlet to escape everyday life. You should try to relax and concentrate on playing the game one hole or shot at a time and focus less on your score card, but although we can’t all be Tiger Woods or Rory Mcilroy, we can appreciate golf for what it is—a game meant to enjoy.
Whether you ever play professional golf or not, or even in a golf tournament, improving at and playing the game is the most important thing you can do as a golfer. So, get out of the house, and get out on the golf course. The game is waiting, and it’s time to get started.
